Finally, the endeavors of World Archery Africa (WAAf) proved fruitful after World Archery announced that the mixed team quota place for Paris 2024 had been preserved for Africa. The place will be decided in Nabeul, Tunisia next November during the 13th African Archery Championships – The Continental Qualifying Tournament for Africa. It was initially meant to be decided during the upcoming African Games in Accra, Ghana in March 2024. However, as soon as the LOC announced that archery would not be included in the Games, WAAf started a process of negotiations with ANOCA, the IOC, and World Archery which resulted in the decision to reallocate the quota place at the 13th African Archery Championships (CQT) which will be held in Nabeul, Tunisia during 8 -12 November 2023.
Thanks are due to all the concerned parties for their cooperation, understanding, and positive attitude as it would have been a real disappointment not to see an African mixed team compete in the next Olympic Games in Paris as was the case in the last Tokyo Games where Egypt proudly represented the Continent in 2020+1. Special thanks are due to Mr. Mustapha Berraf, ANOCA’s President and Mr. Ahmed Abou Elgasim Hashim, ANOCA’s Secretary General who responded with great enthusiasm to the endeavors of Mr. Tarik Amiry, WAAf President. ANOCA showed unconditioned support for WAAf and played an undeniable role in bringing this issue to a good end.
Thus, Africa will be represented in Paris 2024 by 4 individual archers (2 of each gender) and 1 mixed team. All the best for the competing African Athletes!
