In partnership with the Cameroonian Shooting Federation (CSF), WAAf has recently organized a beginner archery training course for the benefit of a group of ambitious coaches from different parts of the country. For seven days (26 October to 1 November) 24 candidates attended the course in Yaoundé, CMR intending to be able to train younger people and spread the practice of archery throughout the country. Many of the participants are actual archers and some have already represented Cameroon in the last TIZOCATA 2024.
The CSF president, Mr. Ayissi Dieudonné said in a short inaugural speech of the course that this is an invaluable opportunity for the Cameroonian Shooting Federation to upgrade its human resources and go ahead in their efforts to spread the practice of archery in the country. He stressed the fact that despite the obvious lack of equipment, Cameroonian archers proved that they have potential and can easily get on the podium if everyone assumes his responsibilities, including coaches. He reiterated his thanks to WAAf for their help and support and assured the presence that he would do his best for the sustainability of this fruitful partnership. At the end of his speech, Mr. Dieudonné pointed out that this development project is part of a whole package that is meant to strengthen Cameroon’s presence at both continental and international levels.
In their turn, WAAf’s project coordinator, Mr. Saber Ben Brahim, and coach trainer, Mr. Djaafer Serir reaffirmed WAAf’s commitment to help African Member Associations who are willing to develop archery in their counties and who believe in the power of partnerships. They pointed out that Cameroon is the second country in the West Africa Zone that benefits from a development project after Sierra Leone in 2024. They thanked the CSF for their hospitality and the candidate coaches for their dedication and motivation to learn.
The end of the training saw the organization of a certificate awarding ceremony that was marked by the presence of a representative of Cameroon’s Ministery of Sports and Physical Education who said in a short speech that he is happy to see WAAf helping CSF within the framework of a partnership and that this will certainly bring about positive results for archery in Cameroon.
