WAAf Congress 2024 was held on December 16th in Cairo, Egypt. Tom Dielen, WA Secretary General, and Constance Terrier, WA Chief Operations Officer, attended the Congress which saw the attendance of 14 Member Associations plus 3 proxies.
Following a short welcome speech, President Tarik Amiry opened the Congress and gave the floor to Mr. Tom Dielen, World Archery Secretary General, who in turn welcomed the presence and wished success for the Congress.
In his report, Dr. Ahmed Koura, WAAf Secretary General, presented the major achievements of the Executive Board during the term 2021-2024. He thanked World Archery for the support and funding allocated to WAAf in the past three years, especially in 2024 which saw a significant increase in WAAf’s budget allowing it to undertake many important and much-needed development projects in different countries on the continent.
Five positions were open for election, including the president, vice president East, vice president North, two board members, and first vice president. At the end of the election process, Mr. Tarik Amiry (SUD) was re-elected president of WAAf for a second term (2024 – 2028), Mr. Al Youssouf Bayjoo (MRI) was elected vice president East, Mr. Mohamed Charif (MAR) was elected vice president North, Mrs. Tabassum Anwar (KEN) and Mrs. Iona Bartosz (ZIM) were elected executive board members, and Mrs. Barbara Manning (RSA) was elected first vice president.
During a short closing word, Mr. Tarik Amiry thanked the presence and promised to carry on working hard and cooperate with all MA’s for the best of African archery.
The elected Executive Board appointed Dr. Alaa Gabr as a honorary president of WAAf, Dr. Ahmed Koura (EGY) and Saber Ben Brahim (TUN) were maintained in their positions as Secretary General and Deputy Secretary General, respectively.
