Algeria to host the 15th African Archery Championships, 2026

With a unanimous decision of WAAf Executive Board, the Fédération Algérienne de Tir Sportif won the bid to host the 15th African Archery Championships, which will be held in Oran, Algeria (ALG) on 21 – 26 July 2026.

Oran is considered the second most important city of Algeria, because of its population and commercial, industrial, and cultural importance. In 2022, Oran hosted the Mediterranean Games.

For the first time in Africa, this Championship will include both Recurve under 21 categories (born in 2006, 2007 & 2008) and Recurve under 18 categories (born 2009, 2010 & 2011) in addition to Senior categories of RM, RW, CM, CW, BM & BW.

All Para Archery categories are allowed to participate, and all African Para athletes will have the chance to be classified before the Championships through “International Classification,” which will be held on 20 July 2026.

This edition of the African Archery Championships will be an important stage for the African athletes to prepare for both the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal (November 2026) and the African Games in Cairo, Egypt (January 2027), which will be the Continental Qualifier for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games (Mixed Teams).
